Cardiologist Update- Jake

This past Monday, 11/1 we took Jake for his 6 month follow up appointment at the Cardiologist. We knew it was going to be an adventure now that Jake is active and would not like being held down for the EKG and the echocardiogram (ultrasound of his heart). We go to the Cumming office and Dr. Sabino is only in that office on Mondays in the afternoon. I pray none of you need a childrens cardiologist but if you ever do or know someone who does... Dr. Sabino is Amazing.. The time he takes to explain medical terms and how he makes you feel so at peace is a special gift.  So that is the reason we go to him even though the appointment times are not ideal. So our options were a 1pm or 3pm appointment.. right in the middle of nap time. Our friend Jen was so wonderful and watched Luke for us so he could take his nap. Jake did very well being that it was nap time and he was not able to crawl around. After all the tests we met with the dr. to get an update. He told us that all the small holes were all gone except for the one and it was still very minimal. He asked us to come back in a year for an echocardiogram because he felt like it will have completely closed by then. He said no more talk of surgery or anything like that.  He had not mentioned the Bicuspid Aortic Valve (see post below from 4/7 for more information on bicuspid aortic valve) and so Jody asked him for an update on that. We had spent a good amount of time discussing it at the 3 month appointment so we just wanted to see if there was anything new we should know. Dr. Sabino said..." you know the guy took really good pictures with the ultrasound and I looked at the valve several times and I can't call it bicuspid anymore" He said he has a NORMAL valve.... "and these things dont just happen".. we said we know how they happen . (In previous conversations we had learned what church his family goes to and how they even go to our church for the Christmas service) We want you all to know how thankful we are for your prayers and for a truly awesome God that has healed our baby boy.

We took Jake to the Cardiologist for his recheck this past Monday. We truly appreciate all your prayers and are so excited to say that we got a good report. His lung pressures had resolved and were balanced and his VSD's which are the small holes have almost closed up. We go back in 6-8 months to be sure they are completely closed. Once the holes are completely healed the only concern will be his bicuspid aortic valve. This should not affect him if at all until he is in his teens or older. We will go back every 2-3 years for follow up appointments to be sure that his heart is not showing any changes. The bicuspid aortic valve can cause strain on part of the heart which would make it enlarged. By going to the follow up appointments they would be able to catch this ahead of time and start medicines, etc. So for now... we are just so thankful and know how great our God is.
