Beach trip 2011

We started our trip to the beach a day earlier by traveling to Mobile to stay with Jody's brother Brian, his wife Melissa, and our 2 nieces (Elizabeth and Emily) We have wanted to see their new house and spend time together for a very long time and were excited to be able to stay the night. The boys loved seeing Uncle B, Aunt Sissa, Cousin Liz, and Cousin Emily. They have a beautiful house and the very best yard. The boys could not wait to play outside! We also were able to see our niece Emily in the colorguard at their High School Football game. The boys were able to see their first game... we made it to half time and then they were ready to run wild. We hope to make it back down to Mobile and can stay longer next time.

The last few years we have gone on a beach trip around labor day with 2 other families. This year it was just 2 families- we missed the Valencias and hope we will all reunite for next years annual trip. Our kiddos are similar ages and have so much fun together. The parents have fun too. We decided to try a different location this year and it was all about location, location, location... If you have ever taken a beach trip with kids you feel the pain of all the trips back to the condo and all the stuff you have to take out on the beach. Our condo this year was very close to the beach and pool and it made things so nice. We sacrificed the personality that comes with rosemary beach for the convenience! Luke and Collin ( 2 weeks older than Luke) had the BEST time playing together. Typing this makes me smile just thinking of how they laughed and smiled constantly! Jake was right there with them wishing he was as big as them. He really surprised us with how much he liked the beach. In the past he has not wanted to be in the sand at all- he had his moments but he would play in the sand and loved playing in the water. If he wanted out of the sand he would put his arms up and say "carry". Luke was a huge sand ball.. He would lie at the edge of the waves and let them wash him up the beach. He wanted to wear his life jacket the whole time... It made me feel safer but we did not make him wear it. He loves a routine and because he typically wears a swim shirt that if you give him the option not to wear it he will say that he needs his shirt. We wanted to go for easy and relax so we decided to cook 2 meals at home and eat 2 meals out. It really worked out perfectly- we ate at crab trap and lulus. The weather was perfect and the water was clear... Tons of shells had come in from the storms the previous week. The boys loved to take walks to look for shells- they loved the big ones whether they were broken or not... We convinced them to only bring back a few! The trip always goes by way too fast... Every year we say why did we not stay longer.
