Jake escapes the crib

When Jake had croup he was given a steroid and this made him very hyper! We also had elevated his crib to help with his coughing. We thought the combination of the two was what led to Jake's first escape from his crib. I quickly removed the pillows elevating his crib and he did not climb out the next day. But it did not take long for him to realize that being out of the bed was more fun than being in it.The only upside is that he is too small to open the door so he is left just sitting by the door. The way you know he is out is that he turns off his humidifier. One night we were wrapping presents after we had put the boys to bed and did not realize Jake had gotten out. We always check on them before we go to bed and could not open Jake's bedroom door. We soon found out that he had fallen asleep in front of the door and that was why we could not open it. We had to turn on the light and wake him up enough to get him to move. His climbing out continued for a few more days and nights- getting out in the morning and calling for us or banging on the door. While at my parents house for Christmas he climbed out of their crib which was very surprising because the mattress is just about on the floor. Not sure how he managed to get out. Everyone said once they figure out how to get out it does not stop! So now that the holidays are over we are turning his bed into a toddler bed. I was so hopeful that he would stay in his crib longer. It is so scary to have a not even 2 year old running free in their room. Hopefully we can teach him to stay in his bed. Should be a FUN start to 2012!!
